Social Media Junkie
Create a visual data display that communicates how you use social media over the course of a measurable time period. The finished design should be multi-pages/multi-surfaced and tie in with the overall theme. The information should be easy to read and understand at a small size, and also serve to work as a direct-mail piece.
I first gathered and recorded information on my social media use over the course of five days. The information I gathered included total watch time, number of notifications, number of times I opened the app, video categories, etc. Once the data was collected, I found the average of each category. The design and layout reflects what you would see when reviewing your screen time on your phone and the notifications on a lock screen. I chose my color palette based on the colors of each social media logo used as well as earth tone colors. When researching paper engineering styles, I went with an accordion style fold because it made the information easy to read and navigate across multiple surfaces.
The finished design is an accordion fold style, paper engineered piece that takes the appearance of phone screens. Each screen communicates both quantitative and qualitative data for each social media platform I used. The front side shows the quantitative and qualitative data, while the backside further explains the information on the front side. The backside where the explanation is held looks like the lock screen to a phone.
